1st Grade Travelers
My name is Mr. Krall, and I am excited to be teaching 1st grade this year! I'm hoping this will be a year full of learning, fun, laughter, and adventure (we aren't called Travelers for nothing!). One of the goals for all teachers, is to help children become "life-long learners". I want my students to enjoy their time in my classroom while learning the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics.

Welcome to 1st Grade
This November, would have been my 13th anniversary of being a teacher. However, I've been out of the classroom for more than two full years due to the pain caused from the cervical fusion surgery I had back in March of 2016. I struggled through the following year, but the pain was too much. Teaching while experiencing a "two-finger" separation of my right arm from my shoulder was impossible to do with joy, patience, and the kind of dedication needed from every teacher in the profession.
Before teaching, I worked as a mechanical drafter for the Boeing Company in Everett, Washington. I graduated from Washington State University in May of 2006. A few days after graduating, I flew down to San Diego to start my third attempt at thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. If you're not familiar with the term thru-hiking, it means hiking one of our nations long distance trails from start to finish, in one attempt. I started on the Mexican Border, in a town called Campo, California. Four months later, I had to end my hike early, after hiking 2,200 miles. I unfortunately, injured my ankle in Northern California and stubbornly continued another 700+ miles and stopped at the Columbia River, on the Oregon/Washington border. Most of the photographs that appear on the top of each page were taken on my hike. One of these years, I'll return to Campo for another attempt!
My teaching career started soon after getting back to the Seattle area. After a couple phone interviews, I drove down to Las Vegas and taught science to 2nd and 3rd graders. The following year, I became a 3rd grade classroom teacher. The next two years, I taught 4th grade. After that, I moved up to middle school to teach 6th grade science. Middle school was not my cup of tea. After that, I was reunited with many of my former colleagues from Frank Kim Elementary and taught 4th grade math and social studies here at Triggs. Then, I wanted to give 1st grade a try. I'm glad I did, because I really enjoyed the attitudes and general excitement that my students had toward school.
